(My first shot at an actual story...here is the first chapter.....I hope y'all enjoy it. It picks up later but I want to know if anyone is interested before I put up the rest)
UPON BLOODSTAINED LIPS
Chapter One: Through The Rabbit Hole
----------------------------------------------------------------------
But I very seldom follow it.
That explains the trouble that
I'm always in.
Be patient is very good advice,
But the waiting makes me curious.
And I'd love the change,
Should soomething strange begin.
Well, I went along my merry way,
And i never stopped to reason.
I should have known there'd be a price to pay, some day.
Some day.
I give myself very good advice,
But I very seldom follow it.
Will I ever learn to do the things I should?
-Alice In Wonderland "Very Good Advice"
The ice cold rain splashed her face as Nicole walked her usual route through the alleyways twining throughout her entire neighborhood. Since she moved to the town they were always dark because most of the street lights had been broken so Nicole was used to the pitch black streets. She was always the only person on the streets at this time of night because it seemed that none of the older citizens dared to stay out after hours, especially because of the recent, mysterious disappearances of neighborhood women but, none of this bothered Nicole. She was well aware of the dangers she put herself into by walking home all by herself in the middle of the night but it was the closest thing she could come to a daring adventure and that was all she really wanted but just as she thought, her new town, Surrey Dale, would not offer her dream to her She pulled her coat closer around her, trying to keep herself insulated from the rain but failing utterly. Nicole rounded the corner to see a couple walking slowly a few feet ahead of her.
The man seemed to be all over the woman’s neck and she just responded by holding on to his arm slightly tighter. He felt the warmth radiating from her warm body. His mouth watered from her warm skin pressed on his lips. She struggled weakly in his grasp, but she had already lost too much blood to put up a good struggle. The smell of violet perfume was intoxicating him from being so close to the human woman. He could practically smell her fear. Her ragged breath smelled strongly of wine. The wind was howling loudly in his ears and the sound of sweet blood pumping through her veins and the erratic beatings of her heart were like music to his ears. Nicole saw the blood flowing down the man’s face as he bit her and drank from her. Suddenly the woman let out a startled yelp but the man just persisted. Her blood was pooling beneath her, soaking into the cracks in the street of the dark alley. She would die from blood loss soon if she didn’t get medical help. The woman dropped to the ground and tried to squirm away from her attacker. Blood was rushing from a wound in her neck, exactly where the man had been kissing her. He roughly tore her up by her hair and continued to suck on her neck. Her body was know leaning heavily upon the man’s. The man felt how the girl’s blood raced through his own veins causing his perpetually cold body to temporarily feel warm again. The hair on the woman’s neck was raised alarmingly from fear and the cold wind mercilessly stinging the man’s eyes. His tongue danced across the wound on her neck collecting the stray crimson blood beads. Her heart was nearly bursting from the rapid pace at which it was beating. This only caused the remaining blood to flow out of her quicker. He saw the look in the woman’s eyes- a look of pure fear and hatred. The darkness seamed to engulf them both making it difficult for Nicole to see them. He actually pitied his human victim. She would have lived but he was too hungry and she was too weak of a creature. He angrily tossed the girl aside as he finished his meal.
Nicole instantly reacted and rushed to the woman’s side and lightly pressed the edge of her coat on the wound, trying to stop the blood flow. She didn’t even pause as she realized that trying to stop the blood flow was futile. She didn’t even take notice to the wounded woman’s attacker. Nicole almost had the woman’s neck completely bandaged with strips of her own shirt but just as she finished, the woman let out a gurgling sound from deep within her throat and was still. Nicole tried to stand but her legs seemed wobbly underneath her, as if they couldn’t hold her weight.
“I can’t save her…” She said to herself, still trying to accept that a woman lay dying at her feet.
The man watched as this new woman tried to stop the blood from his victim’s wound. It was rather amusing to him. He hadn’t seen someone try to save one of his victim’s in a long time. Usually they just walked by, indifferent to the person dying from blood loss or merely called the local authorities who could care less and hardly ever came anyway. The dying woman finally took her last breath.
‘That took long enough.’ The man thought sarcastically.
He watched as the other woman tried to stand up but couldn’t hold herself up. She seemed to actually care about the other female’s fate but, she was too late. The woman was genuinely beautiful as the rain cascaded down her waist length auburn hair. Her green eyes were red and puffy from crying for the dead woman.
‘Maybe I should take her. We are in need of a new companion because my original choice was insufficient.’
He decided he would take this new woman back to his dwelling for the night so he could see if she would be the companion he had long awaited. He stepped out of the shadows and walked right up to the standing woman. She seemed to straighten as she saw his approaching figure, unlike the others who had cowered as he came near. Nicole looked right into the man’s eyes, if man is even the correct word for such a murderous creature such as him.
“My dear, you are very brave but now is not the time for heroics. You will come with me or your loved ones will meet the same fate as your patient over there.” The man said flatly, motioning in the dead woman’s direction.
Nicole didn’t know what to do. Should she comply to this murderers command or listen to the logical part of her brain and just run? She looked away from his gaze but her mind was finally set.
“I…I…Please do not hurt my family, you…monster! Ill do anything in exchange for their safety.”
He looked almost amused at her response to his threat but before she was ready, he grabbed Nicole’s face in his hands , trying to get her to look up into his eyes. She tried to squirm away from his grip but he was to strong for her, a mere human. She gave up her struggle and finally looked up at his face. She gasped in horror at what she saw. He was pale, ghostly pale, with extended canines, and the woman’s blood was drying on his smooth skin, as if staining the very tissue. He smiled at the look of sheer horror on her face.
“Ah, my dear. No need to fear me, yet. You will come to love me and you will spend the lonely centuries with me as my companion. Sleep now my pet for tomorrow night I will open your eyes to a new world, one you have only seen in your wildest dreams.” He gently picked her up bridal style, as if he were afraid that she would break from the slightest touch. Nicole couldn’t understand what she was feeling. A moment ago she had wanted to rip this man’s heart out from killing that woman but now everything seemed to be fuzzy and she just relaxed in his arms, slowly closing her eyes and drifting off to her last rest as a mortal.
“You are strong, brave, and caring, a quality not seen often these days. You are the most beautiful and intriguing creature I have ever seen and it seems only natural if your beauty were preserved for all eternity.” He was well aware that Nicole had already drifted off to sleep but he had to voice the thoughts going through his head. He slowly walked out of the alley way, masterfully averting any passerby’s and any questioning glances.
