The rules can be complicated at first to some, but have no fear! It'll be simpler once I kick Lord Sorn's butt... heheheh... Just kidding. But I probably will. Anyway, ask questions if you don't understand something.
1. First, when you post your topic make it either just your name vs. or if you've already got an opponent your name vs. their name. Be sure to decide who's posting the thread!
2. Before the battle starts you both need your teams approved, so you don't pull out something random. You need your full team, level, attacks (four, like the games, sorry), PP for each attack, any items the pokemon are holding, and HP. These need to be approved by a set judge (someone not battling), each battler, and at least one spectator.
3. Items: You are allowed a maximum of 10 items, meaning you can have 10 different items or ten of one item. It's up to you. These just need to be approved by the judge.
4. Judges: Judges should be named in the first post. I will make a board so you can find one for you battle and find opponents. These need to be present to see all the events, and if one can't continue you need a backup judge. One of the spectators can do that, so easy peesy. Also, judges need to keep track of what's happening and if something goes different than the rules. Say the battle lasts for a few pages... they need to have the info on the first page so you don't cheat.
5. Each time you make a move (it goes by turns, sorry) you need to post the pokemon you're using and it's current HP and PP for moves.
6. The new and improved damage system: Judges are the ones who do the actual math in this, but here is how it works just so you know what's going on:
-First it depends on what type of attack you're using (physical attacks use the attack stat, and special attacks use the sp. attack stat.) so you know what stats you need to look at.
---Normal, fighting, ground, flying, bug, rock, ghost, poison, and steel moves are physical.
---Fire, water, grass, electric, psychic, ice, dark, and dragon moves are special...attacks.
-The judge looks at the amount set on the attack you are using and adds it to your pokemon's attack or special attack stat. The target pokemon's defense stat is subtracted from this amount.
-Then the judge looks at the pokemon using the move. If, say, a Pikachu were using Thunder, an electric attack that matches with its element, then you add half of the amount above (the whole adding subtracting result) to the number itself. Items give the same type of bonus if used properly.
-This is where the whole type advantage comes in. The judge looks at each pokemon's type, and determines whether the pokemon's attack is doubled, ineffective, untouched, or cut in half.
-If a pokemon attacks another pokemon with a double stat, like Pikachu (Electric) against Quagsire (Water, Ground), damage is done normally. In other words, the Quagsire's ground element protects it's water element, so Pikachu's attack does not do double the damage.
---Burn and Poison damage take 5% of the pokemon's maximum HP each turn, unless it is healed.
I know this looks complicated, but when you try it out you'll notice some of the steps are easy to calculate, like a pikachu using an electric move against a rock type or something-- adurh! Anyway, judges will be given information to help them. If a total comes out as a decimal, like 3.5 damage, it is bumped down to 3. If anyone has comments on this please post a reply.
7. I'll post this in the battle annoucements as well: You must register to be a judge! I'm not going to give you a hard test or something, but if you're going to be posting as a judge you need us to give permission. The only requirement is that you need to have witnessed another judge at work and you need to have battled at least once. You didn't need to win.
I hope you have fun in this--any suggestions can be taken here or in the PCO board! Also, if there is an exceptionally cool battle or scene we might get a picture of it. There will also be a "Best Battle Award" with a different prize every time.
